Overcoming outdated systems

Following the wave of automation in the construction industry brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Riverina Crane Services’ outdated paper-based systems were starting to seriously hinder the company’s efficiency and growth.

“We were always chasing operators who didn’t do their paperwork and hand it in,” says Riverina Crane Services administration assistant Kate Earsman. “We have 25 operators, so it took up a lot of time and slowed everything down.”

But as is often the case with long-established businesses, RCS’s systems were deeply entrenched and embarking on a digital transformation seemed like a daunting process.

It wasn’t until an industry colleague recommended EQUIPR Software that the RCS management team looked at EQUIPR’s offerings and immediately knew it was the path they needed to take to future-proof their business.In early 2024, Riverina Crane Services took a significant step forward by rolling out EQUIPR’s innovative software solutions, EQUIPR Allocate and EQUIPR Operator, to automate their dockets, timesheets, allocations and scheduling.

“The rollout was really easy,” says Kate. “If something wasn’t working for us, we’d talk to the [EQUIPR] support guys and they’d get it sorted for us straight away. Nothing was ever a big issue or a big wait.”

Despite initial resistance from some of RCS’s operators who were accustomed to manual methods, the software’s ease of use and immediate benefits quickly won them over.

Transforming workflow

Better cash flow management has been one of the most significant improvements for Riverina Crane Services. Previously, chasing missing documentation and managing paper-based invoices were time-consuming tasks that often delayed payment. 

“All our invoicing is pretty much done the same day now, so that really improves our cash flow,” says Kate. “We changed accounting programs to Xero at the same time [as the EQUIPR Software rollout], so having everything integrated makes it so much easier and more efficient than the manual way.”
